The Newly Found Van Gogh Film a Fake

Sunday August 10, 2003
When it was announced earlier this week that the famous artist Vincent Van Gogh was caught on film, the find seemed too good to be true. Well, it was. Allegedly hiding in an attic in the Netherlands for nearly a century, a short snippet of film taken in the late 1800s was thought to contain Van Gogh walking in the background. However, the timing seemed a little off since Van Gogh killed himself in 1890 and the first known showing of any movie wasn't until 1895. After creating a documentary about this piece of film, the Dutch filmmakers have now stated that the film was just a hoax.
