When the Nazis were going to conduct the final deportation of the Warsaw Ghetto in the spring of 1943, those remaining in the ghetto revolted. For 27 days they were able to hold off the Nazis, but the Nazis overcame the resistance when they decided to burn down every single building in the ghetto. Before last week, there was no knowledge of a surviving account from the final days of the uprising. However, a diary by a young girl was recently found at the Ghetto Fighters House in Israel. The girl, unnamed but probably around 20 years old, wrote six pages about living through the burning of the buildings around her.
