Friday March 18, 2005
George Kennan, Pulitzer-Prize winning historian and U.S. diplomat, died Thursday, March 17, 2005 at the age of 101. In 1947, Kennan wrote an article that proposed a containment policy to fight Communism, rather than an aggressive military campaign. The idea of fighting Communism with ideas rather than weapons created a struggle that quickly became known as the Cold War.
