Ice Pick That Killed Trotsky Found

Wednesday June 22, 2005
Sixty-five years after Trotsky's death, a woman claims to have the ice pick used by Ramon Mercader to assassinate Leon Trotsky on August 20, 1940. The woman, Ana Alicia Salas, is the granddaughter of a policeman who investigated the murder. Salas believes the ice pick should be worth money and would like to have the dried blood that remains confirmed as Trotsky's; Trotsky's grandson says he will only submit to a DNA test if Salas donates the ice pick to a museum. The BBC has the full story.
