Large Nazi Resistance Group Honored

While living within the Third Reich, a group of about 5,000 German teenagers, most of them from working-class backgrounds, joined together to form the Edelweiss Pirates. The Edelweiss Pirates were a resistance group that distributed anti-Nazi leaflets, fought roaming Hitler Youth street gangs, and supported other resistance groups with food and supplies. For decades after World War II, the Edelweiss Pirates continued to be viewed as criminals; only very recently has their status changed within Germany.
