Unpublished Photos of the Scopes Trial

Monday September 26, 2005
In 2005, an independent researcher found about 60 previously unpublished photographs of the Scopes Trial (the "Monkey Trial") in the Smithsonian Institution Archives. All the newly found photographs were taken by Watson Davis, who was covering the trial for the Science Service. The photos include one of William Jennings Bryan being interrogated by Clarence Darrow and one of John Thomas Scopes and George Washington Rappleyea standing together.
