Adolf Hitler has made the "toothbrush moustache" infamous. Hitler's short, dark moustache, which was always trimmed tightly on the sides, became part of the hated image of the Fuehrer. Around the world, many people even today find the moustache too reminiscent of Hitler to ever consider wearing it in public.
But why did Hitler choose this particular style of moustache? An answer may have recently come to light. An unpublished essay, written by another WWI soldier who knew Hitler during this period, wrote that Hitler trimmed his Prussian-style moustache because he was ordered to do so. The wide, somewhat bushy Prussian-style moustache that Hitler had been wearing simply didn't fit under a gas mask. The Telegraph has more about this new moustache discovery.

We should all be thankful that Hitler didn’t ruin the handlebars moustache for generations to come. It’s a small consolation considering everything he did do, but still
