In 1938, Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard used a garage at 367 Addison Ave in Palo Alto as a workshop. A year later, the two men joined into a partnership they called Hewlett-Packard (also known as "HP). HP is now one of the largest computer companies in the world. The twelve-by-eighteen-foot garage in which they began their business is considered to be the birthplace of Silicon Valley.
After purchasing the garage in 2000, HP began to renovate the old garage and have it restored to look like it did back in 1939. In 2007, the National Park Service declared the garage a National Historic Landmark.
