Titanic Ticket Sold

Saturday April 19, 2008
When Lillian Asplund died at the age of 99 in 2006, she left behind a collection of 364 Titanic items. Asplund had been aboard the Titanic when it hit an iceberg and sank on April 15, 1912. She survived with her mom and younger sibling, but lost her father and three older siblings in the disaster. She was the last known U.S. survivor of the sinking of the Titanic to have memories of the event (she was 5 years old at the time).

Items from Asplund's collection have recently been auctioned. Among these items was a ticket to that fateful Titanic voyage, which sold for $65,772. Also, Asplund's father's pocket-watch, stuck at the time of the sinking (2:19 a.m.), sold for $61,786.
