90th Birthday Bash for Mandela

Sunday July 20, 2008
On Friday, July 19, 2008, former South African president and civil rights leader Nelson Mandela turned 90-years old. He celebrated his birthday quietly with family on Friday and then attended a large birthday celebration in his honor on Saturday. The Saturday celebration was a luncheon with about 500 guests. The luncheon was a joint celebration of Mandela's 90th birthday and his tenth wedding anniversary with his third wife, Graca Machel.

I know the knee-jerkers will not like this reaction, but this IS a history site …

And the history of Mandela’s early activities are far less than pure.

It annoys many, especially those like myself who had to risk life & limb fighting ‘terrorists’ of 50 years ago, to now see some lauded a la Mandela.

He may well be a charming gentleman now, but historians will realise that he should join the queue with the likes of Makarios, Kenyatta & many others who were PC’d into ‘respectable politicians’ from their thug days.
