During World War II, the British housed Italian and German prisoners of war in a POW camp called Harperley, located near Crook, England. By the end of the war, the camp consisted of 17 acres, 50 huts, a chapel, and a theater.
After the war, the area was used as storage until James and Lisa Mcleod purchased the property in 1999. The couple had hoped to renovate the camp and make it a tourist attraction. Unfortunately, after pouring $1.6 million (£1 million) into the project, the couple ran out of money with the restoration only about half way done.
The couple has now placed the POW camp on eBay for $1.4 million (£900,000) in the hopes that someone will buy the property and continue the restoration. For more information about this property, see this Daily Mail article about the Harperley POW camp.
