Newly Found Video of Babe Ruth

By October 14, 2009

Unfortunately, there just isn't a lot of film of Babe Ruth playing baseball. Which makes the discovery of some archival footage of "the greatest baseball player who ever lived" something very special. The video, shot probably in 1928, was found amidst someone's grandfather's video collection. The clip shows Babe Ruth striking out at Yankee stadium. There is also eight seconds of Babe Ruth playing in the outfield, with hands on his knees. This is the only known clip of Babe Ruth in the outfield.

This New York Times article not only shows you the clip of Babe Ruth, but has the fascinating story about how archivists at Major League Baseball Productions try to determine who is in the video, where it is taken, and what game was filmed.
