In an effort to help people understand the devastation to European cities during World War II, Google has added a number of historical aerial images to their historical imagery feature in Google Earth. Many of the images were taken in 1943 and show the damage done by bombing raids to over 35 cities.
Although to use Google Earth, you would need to download the free program, you can see a few of these images in this Google's Lat Long blog post. This page offers before-and-after views of four European cities in order to clearly illustrate the damage. For me, the pictures of Warsaw most clearly showed the destruction of the city.
If you would like to see more of these WWII aerial images but are unfamiliar with Google Earth, you might like an article that explains how to use Google Earth.
