Kodak Introduces $1 Brownie Cameras

In 1900, the Eastman Kodak Company introduced a low-priced, point-and-shoot hand-held camera, the Brownie. Though there were other hand-held cameras on the market at the time, the low price of only $1 plus the promise of developing the film (rather than the camera's owner investing in materials and a darkroom) for the first time made cameras accessible to the masses.
