Nizkor: Fighting Denial on the Internet
Though there are many Holocaust sites on the Internet, there are few that were specifically created to fight Holocaust denial. In 1992, Ken McVay began to collect information to refute claims made by deniers. Through six years of research and lots of typing, McVay created the web site Nizkor ("we will remember") at http://www.nizkor.org/The web is filled with sites that deny the Holocaust, that proclaim hate or purely refute the facts. Unfortunately, the web has become a medium in which they can easily and quickly spread their misinformation. Are these people Holocaust Revisionists or Holocaust Deniers? Nizkor discusses this struggle over names.
But how does one fight deniers?
To fight deniers, Nizkor analyzes their arguments and then offers an educated rebuttal. Nizkor has a list of the techniques and fallacies in which deniers attempt to discredit the Holocaust, where each fallacy is examined and the truth explained. These range from misrepresentations of the soap rumor to misquoting the director of the Yad Vashem Archives.
To fight deniers, Nizkor has been mass collecting and publishing on the web accurate materials about the Holocaust. Many such materials are quotes and articles that cover a wide selection of topics from camps, people, and many, many documents. Though you can't find many of the over 3,500 pages directly through the links off of the front page, you can use Nizkor's search function that enables you to define your search and your search results.
You can fight Holocaust denial by learning the truth. Think as you read. Don't be fooled by "scientific" findings or the many misquotations, there are deniers out there, especially on the web, who want to fool you.
