King Edward VIII Abdicates

King Edward VIII Abdicates (1936): With a government threatening to resign en masse, King Edward VIII was forced to decide between remaining the king of England or keeping the woman he loved, Mrs. Wallis Simpson (an American divorcee). After only eleven months as king, King Edward VIII, surrounded by his three surviving brothers, signed the six copies of the Instrument of Abdication on 10 a.m. on December 10, 1936.
