History of the Academy Awards

The 2nd Academy Awards - 1928/29

By , About.com Guide

The second Academy Awards ceremony was held on Thursday, April 3, 1930 in the Coconut Grove of the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles. Experimenting with various award categories, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences gave fewer awards during this ceremony than during the first. However, Los Angeles radio station, KNX, broadcast these Academy Awards during a one hour segment that aired from 10:30 to 11:30 p.m. The Academy Awards have been broadcast over radio or television ever since. William C. deMille hosted the ceremony.
