The sixth Academy Awards ceremony was held on Friday, March 16, 1934 in the Fiesta Room of the Ambassador Hotel. Comedian Will Rogers, the host of the event, unintentionally caused an embarrassing situation when presenting the award for director of the year. After speaking at length about "my good friend Frank," Rogers announced the winner by saying "Come and get it, Frank." Unfortunately, there were two nominees named Frank; thus both Frank Capra and Frank Lloyd got up from their seats and started walking up the aisle before it was realized that it was Frank Lloyd who had actually won.
