History of the Academy Awards

The 61st Academy Awards - 1988

By Jennifer Rosenberg, About.com

The sixty-first Academy Awards ceremony was held on Wednesday, April 29, 1989 at the Shrine Civil Auditorium. This year's event did not have a good start. During the opening of the Awards ceremony, Rob Lowe sang a duet of "Proud Mary" with Snow White. The performance was so terrible that Disney threatened to sue. There was no official host.
